To give beautiful memories an important place in everyday life, design studio Bye creates unique urns. Bye’s urns are designed with the idea that we can make things around farewell and grief lighter and more beautiful; a little bit closer to life and what someone was like.
Tanja Soeter and Desiree Vernie are the founders of Bye memorial design. They studied farewell rituals from all over the world. In doing so, they discovered that in our culture, saying goodbye is still often far removed from us: “Mourning is part of life and doesn’t come with an end date. Yet the expectation is often that you will recover within a few months. This is exactly why we wanted to design something to keep the conversation going about your lost loved one. Just because you can smile again doesn’t mean you don’t feel grief anymore.”
